TASTING NOTES

The 2022 Carménère opens with a vibrant bouquet of violets, cherries, forest floor, vanilla, green pepper, wild grass, and fresh daisies—a fragrant mix of floral and earthy tones.

On the palate, it delivers dark cherries, vanilla, anise, raspberries, and red currant, with medium acidity that brings freshness and balance to the wine’s ripe fruit and spice.

Perfect alongside stuffed peppers, grilled zucchini with herbed chicken, or a mushroom and lentil shepherd’s pie.

WINEMAKER NOTES

The 2022 growing season featured a cold, wet spring and a late budburst. These conditions, combined with hot days and cooler nights, were optimal for achieving an ideal acidity balance in the grapes. Warm and dry weather prevailed through the summer and early fall, which was perfect for the development of berry color, flavor, and tannin levels. These favourable conditions also led to a higher-than-average number of berries and increased berry weight.

VINEYARD NOTES

Becker Vineyard was initially developed in 1977, as part of the pioneering Becker Project, which demonstrated that vitis vinifera could thrive in British Columbia. However, the property’s potential for late ripening red varieties was first identified in 1993, and was replanted to Cabernet family varieties that year. Tucked up against the Okanagan Highland mountains, Becker Vineyard produces finessed, elegant wines from the upper terrace of the Black Sage Bench.
