TASTING NOTES
A beautiful medium ruby hue in the glass, the 2022 Kobau Vineyard Syrah greets with an aromatic medley of cured smoked meats, prosciutto, violets, and rich berries, brightened by fresh spring flowers, vanilla, baking spices, and a touch of nutmeg. The complexity deepens with cherries and anise adding intrigue.
On the palate, this Syrah showcases vibrant acidity, supported by medium tannins that offer structure. Cherries, vanilla, smoked meat, fennel, and strawberry unfold, with a hint of cinnamon, rhubarb, and a mineral-driven finish that adds further depth and sophistication.
Perfectly paired with charred green peppers, duck breast with cherry sauce, or a grilled lamb burger with feta and mint, this wine enhances rich, savory dishes while complementing the lighter, fresh elements.
WINEMAKER NOTES
The 2022 growing season was characterized by a cold, wet spring and latebudburst. These conditions coupled with hot days and cooler nights wereoptimal in creation of acidity balance for this vintage. Warm and dryconditions prevailed through summer and early fall and were ideal for thedevelopment of berry colour, flavour, tannin level and resulted in higher thanaverage berry number and weight.
VINEYARD NOTES
The southerly aspect of the Kobau vineyard on the Golden Mile Bench allow the vines to bask in the early morning sun. On gravelly soils, wines from this vineyard are known for being mineral-driven, well structured, with a balanced ripeness and fresh acidity.
