TASTING NOTES
The 2023 Kobau Vineyard Cabernet Franc comes from two select blocks on the Golden Mile Bench, where shaded afternoons help preserve the variety’s fragrant aromatics and freshness. The fruit was meticulously harvested over three separate passes to achieve optimal ripeness and balance.
Juicy and perfumed, the wine shows vibrant sweet cherry and raspberry layered with licorice, rose petals, and fresh mint. Its bright fruit and distinctive floral and herbal character pair beautifully with herb-roasted lamb, duck, grilled pork, charcuterie, or earthy mushroom dishes.
WINEMAKER NOTES
The 2023 growing season started with a cooler and wetter spring, causing a delayed bud break and flowering. However, it was followed by a warm and dry summer that created ideal conditions for grape ripening with minimal disease pressure. Consistent warmth facilitated even ripening yet maintained good acidity levels in the grapes. The relatively mild weather continued into early fall, providing an extended ripening period that enhanced flavour concentration and complexity in the fruit.
VINEYARD NOTES
The southerly aspect of the Kobau vineyard on the Golden Mile Bench allow the vines to bask in the early morning sun. On gravelly soils, wines from this vineyard are known for being mineral-driven, well structured, with a balanced ripeness and fresh acidity.
