Viticultural Bridges: A Shared Vision for the Future of Premium White Wines

At the recent Viticultural Bridges panel, Phantom Creek Estates played a central role in the conversation around the future of premium white wine. Our winemaker, Jean-Marc Enixon, joined Olivier Humbrecht MW—longtime mentor to Phantom Creek and one of Alsace’s most respected voices—to explore how both regions are shaping next-generation white wines through precision viticulture and a deep respect for terroir. Together, they highlighted how sustainable farming, soil health, and thoughtful vineyard decisions directly influence structure, minerality, and the ability of white wines to age with grace—qualities that lie at the heart of Phantom Creek’s winemaking philosophy.

As Jean-Marc and Olivier discussed, the challenges and opportunities of a changing climate are inspiring new approaches on both continents. From embracing higher-elevation sites to selecting rootstocks suited for warmer, drier conditions, the focus is on crafting wines that remain true to their origins while meeting the future with confidence. Both winemakers emphasized the power of authenticity—creating wines that speak clearly of their vineyards—and the importance of bringing consumers along through transparency and storytelling. Their shared outlook reflects a bright future for premium whites in the South Okanagan and Alsace, driven by craftsmanship, sustainability, and a profound connection to place.
